Become a Volunteer Mentor – Join Our November Training Evenings
Could you make a difference in a young person's life? Headspace is looking for volunteers to support young people across the North Cotswolds through one-to-one mentoring and small-group activities.
Following the interest generated by our recent Volunteer Information Evening, we're delighted to announce four volunteer mentoring training evenings this November.
Our mentoring programme supports young people experiencing anxiety, low confidence, emotional wellbeing challenges and difficulties attending school. For many, having a trusted adult who takes the time to listen, encourage and support them can make a significant difference.
As demand for our services continues to grow, we're looking for more people from our local communities who would like to get involved.
You don't need to be an expert to make a difference
Our volunteers come from all walks of life. You don't need to be a teacher, counsellor or mental health professional to become a mentor.
We're looking for people who are good listeners, patient, reliable and genuinely interested in helping young people build confidence and develop positive relationships.
Volunteers can support young people individually through our one-to-one mentoring programme or help with small-group wellbeing and mentoring activities.
You'll receive training, guidance and ongoing support from the Headspace team.
November Volunteer Mentoring Training Evenings
We are holding four training evenings to help prospective volunteers develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to support young people safely and effectively.
Dates:
Monday 9 November 2026
Monday 16 November 2026
Monday 23 November 2026
Monday 30 November 2026
Time: 7:00pm – 8:30pm each evening
Venue: Bourton Vale Cricket Club, Bourton-on-the-Water
The training will cover key aspects of volunteering with young people, including building positive relationships, listening and communication, understanding mental health challenges, safeguarding and maintaining appropriate boundaries.
Do I need to attend all four evenings?
Yes. We ask all prospective volunteers to commit to completing all four training sessions, as each evening forms an important part of preparing you to work with young people.
However, we understand that other commitments can sometimes get in the way. If you're unable to attend one of the scheduled evenings, please don't let that put you off. We can arrange an alternative training session to help you catch up on anything you've missed.
The full programme consists of four 90-minute sessions, providing six hours of training in total.
Our aim is to make the training accessible while ensuring everyone volunteering with Headspace feels confident, prepared and supported.
Helping young people across the North Cotswolds
Headspace works with young people across Bourton-on-the-Water, Stow-on-the-Wold, Moreton-in-Marsh, Chipping Campden and surrounding communities.
An increasing number of young people are struggling with their emotional wellbeing, and some have become disconnected from education and their communities.
Our volunteer mentoring programme helps provide the time, encouragement and consistent support that can make a real difference.
Whether it's meeting a young person for a chat, helping them develop confidence in a new activity or supporting them to reconnect with others, small steps can lead to lasting change.
For young people who are struggling to attend school or who feel increasingly isolated, having someone outside their family or school environment who is there to listen and offer encouragement can be particularly valuable.
Why volunteer with Headspace?
Volunteering is an opportunity to give something back to your local community while making a meaningful difference to young people's lives.
You'll become part of a friendly, supportive team that is passionate about improving mental health and wellbeing across the North Cotswolds.
We recognise that our volunteers bring a wealth of different experiences, skills and interests. Whether you're working, retired, studying or simply have some spare time, we'd love to hear from you.
You don't need to have all the answers. Sometimes, being there to listen is the most important thing you can do.
Get involved
If you've been thinking about volunteering, now is a great time to get involved.
We're particularly keen to hear from people living in Bourton-on-the-Water, Stow-on-the-Wold, Moreton-in-Marsh, Chipping Campden and the surrounding villages.
The training consists of four 90-minute sessions (six hours in total), with catch-up arrangements available if you need to miss an evening.
All volunteer appointments are subject to our safer recruitment procedures, including appropriate safeguarding checks and DBS clearance.
