Restoring Plot 3: A Space for Young People

Headspace Begins Work on Outdoor Wellbeing Space Thanks to Caring for the Cotswolds Grant

Headspace is delighted to share the exciting progress of our latest outdoor wellbeing project, made possible thanks to funding from Cotswolds National Landscape through the Caring for the Cotswolds Grant Scheme.

Transforming an Overgrown Space into a Community Asset

Earlier this year, we were awarded funding to deliver our project “Restoring Plot 3: A Community Outdoor Learning & Wellbeing Space.” The aim is simple but powerful: to transform an overgrown and unused allotment into a safe, welcoming and inspiring outdoor environment for young people across the North Cotswolds.

The site, which had been left unmanaged and unusable, is now undergoing significant restoration. Initial work has focused on clearing the plot, preparing the ground, and beginning to shape the space into something that can be used for structured wellbeing and learning sessions.

This project will create:

  • Raised growing beds and planting areas

  • Fruit trees and habitat features to encourage biodiversity

  • Practical workspaces for outdoor activities

All of this is designed to reconnect young people with nature while supporting their mental health and wellbeing.

Supporting Young People Through Nature

At Headspace, we see first-hand the impact that time outdoors can have on young people—especially those experiencing anxiety, low confidence or limited access to green spaces.

This project will allow us to deliver regular outdoor wellbeing sessions, giving young people the opportunity to:

  • Build confidence and resilience

  • Learn practical skills through gardening and land care

  • Develop a sense of ownership and responsibility

  • Experience the calming and restorative benefits of nature

As outlined in our project plans , the space will become a long-term community asset, maintained through our ongoing programmes and supported by staff, volunteers and the young people themselves.

A Big Thank You

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Cotswolds National Landscape for supporting this project. Their investment is helping us improve access to the countryside for local young people and promote a deeper understanding of the natural environment.

Looking Ahead

Work will continue over the coming months, with more updates to follow as the space develops. We are excited to see this once-neglected plot evolve into a thriving hub for wellbeing, learning and community connection.

If you’d like to follow the project or get involved, keep an eye on our website and social media channels.
