Planting Seeds of Wellbeing: Outdoor Learning in Action
At Headspace, our Wednesday group enjoyed a truly enriching morning that blended emotional wellbeing practices with hands-on learning in nature.
The session began at our unit, where young people were introduced to hand breathing – a calming technique to support emotional regulation – followed by an engaging discussion using the Wheel of Life to reflect on different aspects of their lives and personal wellbeing.
We then moved outdoors to the allotment, where the group took part in planting, painting, watering, and exploring the natural environment. The allotment offers a peaceful, engaging space that supports confidence-building, mindfulness, and teamwork in a non-judgemental setting.
The impact was clear: our young people returned to school feeling calm, accomplished, and proud of their contributions.
So far in 2024–25, Headspace has delivered 148 wellbeing sessions to 55 young people. This session is a perfect example of where your support and funding goes — creating safe, nurturing spaces where young people can grow emotionally and connect meaningfully with the world around them.
